How do I become a member?

Membership in the UTA chapter is open to all biology graduate students in good standing, and all incoming students are strongly encouraged to join and actively participate in the Society.  If you would like to join Phi Sigma please contact our Vice President.  An on-line application is accessible on the membership page.   Membership in the Society has traditionally required a $50 application fee. Benefits include lifetime membership, a one-year subscription to Bioscience, guilt-free attendance at Phi Sigma functions, and perhaps most importantly, the eligibility to receive research grants through the Society.

Where can I find the Society?

The Phi Sigma room is located on the first floor (127) of the Life Sciences Building.

What are the prerequisites?

Membership in the UTA chapter is open to all biology graduate students in good standing, and all incoming students are strongly encouraged to join and actively participate in the Society.

What is Phi Sigma about?

The Phi Sigma Society is a national graduate student honor society for the promotion of research in the Biological Sciences. Phi Sigma is currently the official means of graduate student input into Biology Department affairs (e.g., faculty candidate searches). In addition, the society funds and organizes several social events throughout the year that serve to increase interaction among graduate students and between students and faculty.
