Why join Phi Sigma Biological Sciences Honor Society Beta Phi Chapter at UTA? Membership in Phi Sigma is great for many things. Not only is it a facilitator for meeting fellow students, but it also is a place for new ideas, possible collaborations, and networking. Being a member allows graduates to apply for travel awards to attend or present at meetings; qualify for grants to facilitate their research; to offer input to Department of Biology affairs (e.g., faculty candidate searches); and to bring in speakers in various fields for different perspectives on science. Workshops, as well as graduate-run BioLunches, are given each semester, aiding in our academic development.
Who is eligible to join? Graduate students interested in and/or pursuing a degree in biological sciences as part of the Biology Department at UTA are eligible for membership into the Beta Phi chapter of Phi Sigma. Interested students should be in good standing (B average or higher). All incoming graduate students are strongly encouraged to join and actively participate in the Society.
How do I become a member? Membership deadlines for the Fall Semester are October 1st, and for the Spring Semester, March 1st, at which time names will be turned in for Phi Sigma room access. The membership application can be found below as a Word document. Two copies of typed applications are required; the links below allow for typing in the necessary places. A one time membership fee of $50.00 is passed in with your application. Please make checks out to Phi Sigma. The National Office fee includes processing membership information, an Official Phi Sigma pin, a Certificate of Membership, and a one year subscription to the journal BioScience. There are no annual dues; the one time fee covers a lifetime membership into the Phi Sigma Biological Sciences Honor Society. Application These files were created with Microsoft Word, therefore Word
